Throw Back Thursday – Loch Ness Marathon

For this edition we look back at the Baxters 2019 Loch Ness Marathon.

It was 6th October 2019 and long before Covid-19. The club was going from strength to strength and our members were enjoying the success of consistent training and good old fashioned Run-Fun.

Caroline posed the question in the early months of 2019…. Does anyone want to run a Marathon with me?…. And so the seed was sown.

We already had a member representing us in the London Marathon, Ian was in the Marathon Du Medoc and we had members eventing in Off Road Marathons locally.

Caroline fancied something a little different for her first effort at the 26.2 distance and set about creating the training team.

It was a lifetime ambition to complete a Marathon for Caroline, Sally had previously ran the Manchester Marathon back in April with her daughter and was looking to go faster. Whilst Fran was in great form after smashing a Half Marathon PB in the run leg of Shrewton Triers Relay entry for the club at the Half IronMan in Weymouth just a month before.

Rich had suffered a setback in his training for the event and had opted to accept the organisers offer to allow him to race the 5k the day previous. Loch Ness is a festival of running and not just about the main event and with Moss organising the “Kitchen” and fuelling the team with his running wisdom, Team SRC were to have one of the best running experiences ever.

We would definitely recommend this event. Especially if you are looking for something different.
