SRC Timed Mile

28th February 2020

Last night our members turned out and braved the cold for our Timed Mile. A chance to set a new PB and have some fun.

After coming out of the winter “Off Season” we set off for our warm up and got ready for three laps of fun…. Each independently timed.

The playing field was evened out as everyone present was racing against their own personal bests, and had three chances to beat it.

We had anything from runners setting their very first 1 mile time, right through to seasoned runners chasing down times they had set years ago during the formation of the club.

We started off en masse, raving and cheering each other on. Hi vis and head torches lighting up the night sky.

As we descended the 350m downhill charge we were beginning to spread out. The route levelled off for about 200m giving us the chance to get into a rhythm before we were urging and cheering each other up a gradual steady 500m incline. Not the easiest of routes for a timed mile but certainly an entertaining one. Camaraderie gets you up this section but its the fun you have that makes you want to run it again.

After the incline, and catching our breath, we all made our own individual charge for the finish…. A flat section quickly greeted by the downhill section we all started at.
