Throw Back Thursday – A look back through the scrap book #1

By Stuart Anderson

Our very own athlete Stuart Anderson recalls his running career…

I got into running as my School backed onto Windsor Great Park, and our first PE lesson was a Cross Country run.

Year 7 en masse straight out into the park! No markers just an all out race following our teacher…

I loved it.

I joined Windsor, Slough and Eton Athletic club, and eventually after a couple of years won my most memorable race, The Berkshire Intermediate Boys Cross Country Champs 1978.

I was hooked and have been running ever since…… I still have the result that was printed in Athletic’s weekly.

Classic 80’s shorts, vests (Black and white)
Oh what days, even earlier in colour…. 1977!

It was such a long time ago. The colour photo was a youth race in Newbury, – Berkshire County Championships. The runner behind me is Jonathan Solly – 1986 Commonwealth 10k champion. Obviously he was not as good in this Berkshire race!

The other is a race still going The First Cliveden Cross country race in 1981 . Cross country around Cliveden estate near Windsor.

I was encouraged very early on to keep a running log and scrap book, and now have 46 years to look back on.

All the best Stuart
