Solstice Run – Run to the Stones with Chippenham Harriers

By Darrell Benge

Now all the complications of Christmas and New year are passed, I have had time to write something about our solstice run.

The 2021 winter solstice fell on the afternoon of Tuesday the 21st of December; a group of runners from Shrewton Running Club and Chippenham Harriers gathered at Stonehenge Inn in Durrington to run to Stonehenge in time for the sunset.

Shrewton being local to the stones, led the run on a route taking us through the historic landscape passing many of points of interest on the way.

SRC – Marathon Day

For this edition we look back to Sunday 3rd October 2021.

Nick Sage – We were delighted to see founder member Nick Sage finally get the Club’s official place in the (October) London Marathon, he had entered every year since deciding to become a runner, both in the Clubs Ballot and the Official Ballot and didn’t disappoint as he flew round the streets of London wearing the Club colours with pride.

Philly Royston – Running a Marathon is no easy feat, the commitment to training alone puts many off, but Philly excelled in the challenge of the first ever Virtual London and chose to do it mostly Off-Road. Clearly loving every moment, she showed us just how much fun can be had with an awesome finish line smile.

Jo F – Has been ticking off the 26.2 distance for many years and continues to surprise us all by popping up in a Marathon finish line photo every month, sometimes twice a week. Jo will be smiling from the beginning of every run (No matter the distance) and from ear to ear at the finish.

The Yarnbury Yomp

This time last year things got real. We had been working hard in the background to see if an event was viable; given all the Covid related restrictions.

We were desperate to give our second offering to the running community, after lockdowns cancelled the last… We now had enough in place to agree… It was ON.

Before we knew it the WORL community were preparing for race #3 .

And what a fantastic day it turned out to be… Thank you.
