SRC Christmas Social, End of Season, Awards Night 2017

On Saturday 9th December Shrewton Running Club celebrated their Christmas social, end of season, annual awards night all rolled into one. As the title suggests it was a fun packed evening.

Things got underway with a fascinating talk by Lucinda Miller (@LucindaNatDoc) on running nutrition. Lucinda’s knowledge, passion and enthusiasm was infectious and prompted endless questions.Lucinda Miller

Next, our very own analyst Andy Hartfield reviewed of our first season in the Wiltshire Road Race League. With an unbelievable 4th place finish in Division B, exceeding our expectations, Andy worked his stats magic and gave us a ‘what could have been’ example, which showed that with a little more of a push we could have been in the top two. This gave us food for thought for 2018.Andy Hartfield

Next, Nick our chairman presented our annual awards. Still in it’s early infancy there were only 3 awards. Firstly the award for ‘Have Vest Will Travel’ went to Enid for her efforts being snapped on various holiday locations wearing the club vest. The scenic Iceland shot was really very impressive. That’s Iceland the country, and not Iceland supermarket.

The award for ‘Best Excuse For Not Running’ went to Rich for “I can’t run today as I’ve got to get some printer ink”. Whilst we all know it was a family emergency, it still was a well-deserved award.

The final and most prestigious award for ‘Most Improved Runner’ was then presented. In 3rd place was Andy Allway, 2nd place went to Sam Hill and first place went to Edward Lilley. Edward was a graduate on our first Couch 2 5 K back in April, and his progress since then has been extraordinary. Well done Edward!!

Following the awards Nick gave a speech, which gave an overview of our clubs progress over the past year, and celebrating the news that our membership now stands at 40. Nick also thanked members of the committee for their hard work and enthusiasm in making the club what it is.

Following Nick’s speech Roxy distributed the Secret Santa gifts generating some laughs along the way. Most hilarious was Rich’s 118 outfit which he bravely put on and demonstated. Only achieved with the help of plenty of wine I think!Rich as 118

Once formalities were over the evening relaxed into the cheese and wine and plenty of socialising.

The evening was a huge success and emphasised the spirit of Shrewton Running Club. Thanks to everyone for making it such a great evening, and in particular to Edward for the very kind donation of the fabulous red wine.
